Yankee Dental 2027: January 28-30, Boston
Yankee Dental Congress runs January 28-30, 2027 at the Menino Convention & Exhibition Center in Boston. It is the largest dental meeting in the Northeast and it now runs a Multi-Site Summit alongside the main programme, which is the part that matters if you own more than one location. Sorso is not an exhibitor, sponsor, or speaker at this event. This is an independent prep guide for dental practice owners.
The CFO read
The PPO question is the one dental owners avoid, because the modelling is uncomfortable and the answer is sometimes to accept fewer patients. But an effective write-off rate above the mid-thirties on a plan that fills a third of your chairs is a decision, not a fact of life. Run the write-off ranking before Boston. Yankee has the negotiation sessions and the peer conversations to act on it, and January is exactly when the year's payer mix is still changeable.

Why this matters for your bottom line
Dental economics turn on production per operatory hour and on collections against production. Practices that watch production alone can grow the top line while collecting a shrinking share of it.
PPO participation is the biggest single lever most dental owners have. Dropping or renegotiating a plan changes both fee schedule and patient volume, and it cannot be judged without modelling the two together.
January is the start of the benefit year, so the trip lands exactly when the schedule and the payer mix for the year are being set. Decisions made now compound for twelve months.
DSO and group consolidation continues across the Northeast, which means owners get approached. Adjusted EBITDA and the multiple drivers behind it are worth knowing before a broker frames them for you.
What to look for
The Multi-Site Summit if you own or are building toward more than one location
PPO negotiation and fee schedule sessions, including how to model dropping a plan
Production and collection metrics: per operatory, per provider, per hour
Hygiene department economics, which behave differently from restorative production
Associate compensation models and what they do to owner take-home
Practice valuation, transition, and DSO deal structures
Financial prep checklist
Review these before you go.
Calculate production per operatory hour and collections as a percentage of production
Rank your PPO plans by effective write-off percentage and identify the worst two
Model dropping your least profitable plan: fees recovered against patients likely lost
Separate hygiene production and its direct cost from restorative to see what each contributes
Check associate compensation as a share of the production they generate
Normalise owner compensation and calculate adjusted EBITDA before anyone else offers a number
What it costs to send someone
Registration is the line everyone budgets first. It is rarely the one that decides whether the trip was worth it.
Registration
Yankee has published dates and venue for 2027 and says housing information opens in autumn 2026. Rates were not published at the time of writing, so budget from your last attendance and book housing through the official channel when it opens.
Coverage and lost production
Three days closed in late January is three days of production gone, and unlike a procedure backlog dental hygiene slots do not stack into the following week. Price the lost production per operatory, since that is the real number.
Who else travels
Practices routinely send the whole team to Yankee because of the CE. That is defensible, and it means the cost is the entire practice being closed rather than one person travelling.
What comes back as a deduction
IRS Publication 463 allows the travel deduction for a convention where “your attendance benefits your trade or business,” on the ordinary rules for travel away from home. Meals are generally limited to 50% of the unreimbursed cost. Keep the agenda with the receipts, and confirm the treatment with whoever signs your return.
No rates are quoted here. The organizer had published none when we last checked this page against their site on 10 August 2026, and travel is yours to price for your own dates anyway. The point of the list is that the two lines owners leave out, coverage and headcount, are the ones that decide the real number.
