Hinman 2027: March 18-20, Atlanta

Hinman returns to the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta from Thursday, March 18 to Saturday, March 20, 2027. Two of those days are normal clinic days, so the cost to a practice that sends its team is mostly the schedule it closes. Sorso is not an exhibitor, sponsor, or speaker at this event. This is an independent prep guide for dental practice owners.

The CFO read

Hinman is built for the whole dental team, and taking the team is fine as long as the owner treats it as an investment with a return. The return comes from two places: what the team changes when they get back, and what you do or do not buy on the floor. Put a number on the closed days first, then hold the CE and every vendor deal to it.

What this event is

The Thomas P. Hinman Dental Meeting is run by the Hinman Dental Society and, in its own words, is held every March in Atlanta. It combines continuing education, hands-on courses and an exhibit hall.

Hinman pitches the meeting to dentists, hygienists, dental assistants and dental office staff, which makes it a whole-team trip for many Southeast practices. With the ADA's national meeting paused until further notice, regional meetings like this one now carry more of the exhibit-floor buying that used to happen there.

Why this matters for your bottom line

A team trip on a Thursday and Friday closes two production days. Owners who know their daily collected production can tell whether the CE is worth that; owners who do not are guessing.

Exhibit-floor show pricing is built to close a deal in the aisle. An owner who has already worked out what a scanner, a chair or a practice-management system would earn back can say yes or no on the spot and mean it.

If a DSO, group or broker strikes up a conversation in the hall, knowing your adjusted EBITDA beforehand keeps you from anchoring on their number.

Hygiene, assistants and front-office staff all have tracks here. Sending them is a training budget decision, and it is worth tying to a measurable change back at the practice.

What to look for

01

Front-office and insurance sessions your billing staff can turn into fewer denials and faster claims

02

Equipment demos where the vendor will show utilisation assumptions you can check against your own schedule

03

Hygiene-department content on recare and periodontal case acceptance

04

Courses on PPO fee negotiation and when a plan is worth leaving

05

Transition and valuation sessions if a sale, partner buy-in or associate path is within five years

06

Practice-management software vendors you are already unhappy with, to compare against alternatives

Financial prep checklist

Review these before you go.

Work out average daily collected production and multiply it by the clinic days the trip closes

Set a payback threshold for any equipment purchase (months to recover cost) before you walk the floor

Ask each team member who attends to name one change they will bring back, and check it 60 days later

Pull denial reasons for the last quarter so your front-office staff know which sessions to attend

Get your current lease, financing and service-contract terms on one page in case a vendor offers a trade-in or bundle

Calculate adjusted EBITDA with owner compensation normalised, in case a group or broker asks
