The CFO read

For a California practice paying metro wages and rent, overhead decides the margin, and fees rarely move fast enough to cover a new fixed cost. That makes the Anaheim exhibit hall a place to be careful: every new monthly payment lands on top of what you already carry. Bring your Q1 overhead percentage and a hard ceiling for anything you plan to buy. If a deal does not clear both, it can wait for next year's show.

What this event is

CDA Presents is the California Dental Association's convention, billed as The Art and Science of Dentistry. The 2027 edition returns to the Anaheim Convention Center.

The program pairs lectures and hands-on workshops with a large exhibit hall. For California owners it is the closest large meeting and the obvious place to do equipment and vendor shopping. CDA says registration opens in January 2027.

Why this matters for your bottom line

If your practice sits in a high-wage, high-rent California metro, overhead is the number that decides your margin. Any purchase made in Anaheim lands on that base.

Mid-May is late enough in the year to judge first-quarter results and early enough to change the second half. Owners who arrive with Q1 numbers can decide on the spot whether an equipment or software spend fits.

Medi-Cal Dental participation and the mix of commercial PPO plans set the payer picture for a California practice. A meeting run by the state association is a natural place to hear how peers are weighing those plans.

If a group or DSO approaches you at the show, the owner who already knows their adjusted EBITDA talks from a stronger position than one hearing a valuation for the first time.
