MGMA Summit: December 8-9, 2026, online

Two days, no travel: MGMA runs its virtual Summit on Tuesday and Wednesday, December 8-9, 2026, about three weeks before calendar year-end. That timing makes it a budgeting event whether MGMA bills it as one or not. Sorso is not an exhibitor, sponsor, or speaker at this event. This is an independent prep guide for practice managers and clinic owners.

The CFO read

December is the one month when a session can still change next year's plan, and the Summit lands right in it. The risk with a $100 virtual event is that it gets treated like a webinar: tab open, inbox open, nothing decided. Treat it as the kickoff of your 2027 budget instead. Walk in with year-to-date numbers, pick the two or three sessions that touch your largest cost lines, and have the budget draft updated by the end of the week.

What this event is

MGMA, the Medical Group Management Association, closes its centennial year with a two-day virtual Summit. MGMA describes the program as covering the operational, financial and leadership problems medical groups face now, with a selection of sessions carried over from its Annual Conference.

The format is built for people who cannot leave the practice: sessions run live, and MGMA's page says registrants get 30 days of on-demand access afterwards, with up to 9 live CEU credits including ACMPE credit. MGMA lists registration at $100 for this edition; organizational members and Annual Conference registrants are already covered.

It suits practice managers, office managers who carry the finance function, and owners who want a December reset without booking travel. This is a separate event from the June 2026 Summit, which also ran virtually.

Why this matters for your bottom line

If your practice runs on a calendar fiscal year, December is when next year's budget gets set. A session heard on December 8 can still change a staffing line or a fee schedule before January 1.

A virtual event costs the practice almost nothing in coverage. Nobody leaves the building, so the real expense is attention, and that is the thing to protect.

Some Annual Conference sessions are repackaged here. For a practice that skipped the in-person Annual, this is the cheapest route to that material.

The 30-day replay window turns two days into a month. A manager can watch the finance sessions live and leave the HR or IT tracks for quieter afternoons in the week between the holidays.

What to look for

01

Any session that ties revenue cycle metrics to a dollar target for 2027

02

Staffing and compensation content you can turn into next year's wage budget

03

Payer and reimbursement outlook sessions, read against your own top five contracts

04

The Annual Conference sessions MGMA chose to carry over; those are the ones it rated highest

05

Leadership material on running budget meetings with physician owners

06

ACMPE-eligible sessions, if your administrator is working toward certification

Financial prep checklist

Review these before you go.

Pull year-to-date collections, overhead, and margin through November so the 2027 targets start from a real base

List the three budget lines most likely to move in 2027 (wages, rent, a payer contract) and bring them to the sessions

Book the two days in the manager's calendar as out of office, even though they will be at their desk

Agree with your manager in advance which replays they will watch in the following 30 days

Draft the 2027 staffing plan before the event so the sessions have something to test

Write down the one decision you want to make before January 1 and judge every session by whether it helps
