Healthcare clinic benchmarks by specialty

Profit margin, overhead ratio, collection rate, A/R days, and payer mix for 12 outpatient specialties. Where a specialty association publishes figures we link them; for several specialties nobody publishes verifiable ranges at all, and those pages say so rather than borrowing authority they do not have. Margin and overhead are stated before owner or provider compensation.

What each benchmark page includes

  • Profit margin (net) — low, median, high with source citations
  • Overhead ratio, broken into staffing, rent, supplies, equipment, marketing, insurance, and other
  • Gross and net collection rate ranges, plus typical denial rate
  • Days in A/R — median and top-performer thresholds
  • Payer mix: Medicare, Medicaid, commercial, self-pay, cash
  • Staffing ratios: FTE support staff per FTE provider
  • Specialty-specific KPIs (e.g. injectable COGS % for med spas, visits/FTE for PT)
